The bobbin is located on the underside of your sewing machine. On Brother models, you may find it beneath your sewing machine. After locating the bobbin follow these steps:

Take a small piece of thread and wind it around a finger until there is enough on one hand for about four inches, then cut off any excess with scissors or a knife.
Push the bobbin in towards you and wind the thread around the bobbin from left to right without over-tightening.
If your machine has a little notch above each stitch and a guide on either side of it, wind thread around this instead to avoid over-tightening.
Keep turning your needle bit until you find an alternate top spot and continue until you have finished winding. (This will usually take between 2-3 minutes.) When having trouble reaching your last couple spots, turn your machine on its side or take out one screw on either side of your needle plate. By doing so, you will be able to reach those hard-to-reach spots.
Put the bobbin back in its slot, and then put your machine to the side and move on to other work.

On the bobbin, place the thread. The thread should wrap clockwise around both sides of the bobbin, crossing over itself about two or three times when you have made a full circle on either side of the bobbin. Your stitches will remain secure in this manner.
Now that the bobbin is in place and your thread is ready to go, you are ready to put the bobbin into the machine. Put your finger inside the hole on top of the bobbin (the hole where you insert needle bar thread) and pull out slightly.
Now that the hole is clear, place your needle bar thread down through the hole and start wrapping it clockwise around the shaft of the bobbin.
Pull it taut when you have finished wrapping so that it runs from half clock rotation position. Make sure that you are not wrapping too tightly or loosely. The thread should not be too tight against the dock to prevent any possibility of tearing your fabric. The thread should rest between the two white lines that run across the top of the bobbin.
Once you have wrapped your needle bar thread around and over the bobbin, pull it back up through the hole, put it down inside and pinch the thread tight with your fingers to secure it into place.
