Singer M1000

My experience with the Singer M1000 has been great. I would mostly recommend it to people who have children around as they are not too heavy and they are easy to carry around. The machine is also easier to use than I thought and I can actually use it well in sewing some of the materials that I have at home. Pros

  • Automatic Needle Threader – The Automatic Needle Threader is a wonderful new addition to the Elna sewing machine. This makes your job so much easier and faster.

  • Stitch Selection Dial – The stitch selection dial is what allows you to pick and choose stitching types, this feature is also very awesome, especially for beginners. This means that no matter how many stitches you want, you will easily be able to find the one that best fits your needs.

  • Durability – Durability is a topic that I don’t think anyone likes to use with regard to their sewing machines, but in all honesty, it is something that we all want. This sewing machine is very durable. The motor and electronics are very strong, which means that the machine itself is built well.

Cons

  • No Automating Thread Cutter – The first thing I noticed was that there was no automated thread cutter and I was pretty upset. I really like this feature, but the machine did not have it and I was upset when I first noticed it was not included. I guess I just want what I want sometimes.

Buying Guide For A Kids Sewing Machine

It is important to know what features a sewing machine should have before buying one. Here are some of the things that you should consider before purchasing a sewing machine for kids:

  1. Get a Highly Reviewed Product

It is obvious that you would look for the best products from reputable brands especially when you are looking for a product for your children. You would want the machine or any other product to have good ratings, as well as reviews by previous customers who have already tried them out already and given their feedback on each feature of the product. Search online for good products that have high RPMs, easy-to-follow instructions, and easy storage features.

  1. Easy to Use

If you’re buying a sewing machine for your kids, it is important that the machine is easy to use and not too complicated. It should have a button that will allow the user to start and stop the machine without having to go online with the instruction manual or ask their parents for help.

It should also be easy enough for them to use without consultations from grandparents or any other family members who might be available in helping them out. This feature will also enable them to practice their skills even if it’s just on an outing with friends or when they do chores around the house during weekends.

  1. Lightweight and Portable

It is important to consider the convenience of portability before purchasing a sewing machine for kids. The machine should be lightweight and easy to carry around while they are going to school or even when they are on an outing with friends.

It should not be bulky or heavy when it is in their hands, so that transportation or storage is not too much of a hassle for you to deal with. There are also products out there that are highly recommended for kids, which would make it easier for you when transporting them from one place to another.

  1. Specific Patterns and Materials

Unless you have a lot of time to teach your children how to sew, you will find it a hassle to teach them about different fabrics and the different ways you can manipulate the fabric for making a baby’s outfit or a dress for a little girl.

If your son or daughter is experienced in hand sewing, then they will do well if they are given a machine that has specific patterns and materials that can be used in order to help them practice. This would be helpful when it comes to making an outfit or even something they can use on their sleeves.

  1. Low Noise Level

Sewing machines for kids with high speed can be quite noisy, especially when the needle is being inserted into the fabric and then taken out of it. This is a common occurrence for kids who are learning how to sew. Because of this, there are those that have tried using the machine without their parent’s knowledge in order to prevent them from hearing the noise coming from it while they are practicing their skills on mastering sewing techniques.

The noise or electrical buzz may set off a panic among your children especially if they only have an adult as a reference point in regards to what they should do next.

  1. Have Multiple Speeds and Threads

Having a machine with high-speed sewing settings is one thing that you have to look into when buying a sewing machine for your kids. The high speed will give them the chance to practice without having to worry about being too fast or too slow, as well as having the ability to work with multiple materials by having different speeds and threads.

This will also help them know how sewing garments or even fabrics can be done in the first place, helping them become more experienced with basic sewing techniques.

  1. Appropriate Lengths of the Sewing Machine

Children should not be encouraged to use the longest sewers of their age category, especially if they are young children. Even though they love playing with a toy when they are younger, it’s important that your child understands the difference between a toy and a real sewing machine.

It will be best if you buy sewing machines that have a shorter length for them to handle so that your children do not get hurt or even too tired from long-term usage. Shorter length is also important because it will allow them to stay in line with other kids their age when it comes to mobility.

  1. Have a Fast or Slow Speed

Very young children who have no experience in using a sewing machine should not be given the freedom to choose which speed they want to use when they are on their own. Getting them to work with machines that have both fast and slow speeds would help them practice on how to work on different speed settings until you get them used to the normal pace of sewing.

If you let your children choose which one they want, then there is a chance that they will not know how to handle fast or low speeds later on in life.

  1. Helpful Sewing Machine Accessories

Almost all sewing machines have extra parts that are included in the package, allowing your child to practice making their own costumes from scratch or even personalizing their own homemade clothes.

Having a screwdriver and other basic tools that can be used for repairing and maintenance of the machine will also be very helpful when it comes to trying out sewing techniques. Being able to repair whichever parts of the machine they want, will also help them become more experienced with how things work, as well as being able to manipulate the parts themselves at a young age is important.

  1. It’s Important to Know the Brands

When you are looking for a sewing machine for your kids, it is important that you know the sewing machine brands and their reputation online. This will help you find out which one is worth the money whether it’s in terms of pricing or quality.

Not having sufficient knowledge about the brands may mean that you are not getting what you want and having to spend more money on something that is not as good as it can be. This will also give their future reference points when they are older and they wish to learn how to sew professionally.

Final Thoughts

There are a variety of sewing machines that are available in the market these days. This can be quite a task when you’re not sure which one to get for your child who is interested in sewing. Keep this article for reference and choose the best sewing machine for kids that will suit your child’s needs.
